Youth mental health first aid
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches adults how to recognize when a young person may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge, listen without judgment, offer reassurance, and help connect youth to appropriate support. My approach brings a Black, Brown, and rural community perspective to the training. Culture, family, faith, community relationships, lived experience, and historical mistrust can all influence how young people understand mental health and whether they feel safe asking for help. This training helps adults see the whole young person, recognize community strengths, reduce stigma, and become trusted first lines of support for youth and families.
